Accessibility at AppItYourWay

Built into the studio, not bolted on. WCAG 2.2 AA is the floor — comfort and control for real builders is the goal.

Open the Aa panel any time — bottom-left on every page — to change theme, text size, spacing, contrast, font, motion, or reading aids. Choices save on this device.

AppItYourWay is a studio for real builders — first-time shippers, experienced consultants, executives translating for their teams, and contributors sharing what worked. That range means the interface has to bend to fit the person using it, not the other way around. We build accessibility directly into the product rather than renting an overlay that sits on top of it.

Our standard

We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, Level AA. We test with automated tooling, manual keyboard and screen-reader passes, and feedback from the builders using the site. We treat accessibility findings the same as any other build issue — logged, prioritized, and closed with a Decision Trail.

What you can adjust

  • Theme — light, dark, or match your operating system.
  • Text size & spacing — six size steps and four spacing steps without breaking layout.
  • Contrast — Standard, High, or Highest for maximum legibility.
  • Font — swap to Atkinson Hyperlegible or Lexend for reading ease.
  • Motion — Auto (respects your OS), Reduced, or Full.
  • Reading aids — reading guide, reading mask, read mode, highlight titles / links, amplified focus ring.
  • Controls — larger tap targets (48px minimum) and a bigger pointer.
  • One-tap presets — Builder Focus, Long Read, Easier Reading, Easier Tapping, Calm Mode, Low Vision.

How we build it, not bolt it on

  • Semantic HTML, real form labels, and landmark structure on every page.
  • Full keyboard operability with visible focus indicators and a skip-to-main link on every route.
  • Design tokens (never hardcoded colors) so every theme, contrast, and font preference flows through the whole studio consistently.
  • WCAG 2.2 minimum target sizes (24×24 CSS pixels) — 44×44 on primary actions, 48×48 when "Larger controls" is on.
  • Respect for your operating system's reduced-motion and color-scheme preferences.
  • No third-party accessibility overlay. Everything you can adjust is native code we own and test.

Assistive technology

The studio is tested with recent versions of VoiceOver (macOS / iOS), NVDA and Narrator (Windows), and TalkBack (Android). We aim to keep pace with the browsers shipping today (last two versions of Chrome, Safari, Firefox, and Edge).

Known limits

Accessibility is never finished. Some areas we're actively improving:

  • User-submitted rich media may not always carry captions or transcripts.
  • Some third-party embeds (video, checkout) inherit their vendor's a11y quirks.
  • The AI assistant's streaming output is announced politely — we're refining the timing so screen readers don't feel spammed.
